A former taoiseach of Ireland has taken aim at President Michael D Higgins over comments he made about the UN last week.

John Bruton has said Ireland needs a “united” foreign policy after Higgins said the UN was “falling” and “losing credibility” and that it had been unable to prevent war or famine in countries across the world.
