The Irish state has refused to clarify to what degree it would back Irish fishermen if they were detained by Scottish patrols at Rockall.

Scottish cabinet secretary for external affairs Fiona Hyslop has claimed that Irish boats fishing within a 12-mile zone of Rockall would be detained – and crew members arrested – if they refused to leave the area.
