Darragh O’Brien has said his party is taking “very seriously” comments made by two Fianna Fáil councillors about migration, but that the government could improve its engagement with local communities.

The Minister for Housing was speaking after Tánaiste and Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin roundly criticised as “absolutely unacceptable” comments made by two of the party’s councillors in Galway who had opposed housing asylum seekers at a hotel in Rosscahill.

The disused hotel was severely damaged after a suspected arson attack on Saturday night.
