BMW aims to leave rivals in slow lane as it ups investment in electric and hybrid cars

German car maker BMW released its second-quarter results this morning, as it tries to manage growing opposition to diesel-powered cars anda transition to electric and self-driving vehicles, following recent blows to the reputation of the wider German car industry.
