The bookmaking industry has become expert at using events for a bit of free publicity. Expect plenty of stories in the next few days about how much Leicester City's unlikely topping of the Premier League has cost them tens of millions – when in reality they would have made quite a bit on none of the big four actually winning the title.

Paddy Power would normally be among the worst culprits, but the company doesn't need cheap PR at the moment. This morning Paddy Power Betfair released its first set of results since the merger of the two companies was officially completed back in February. For the first timethe benefits of the merger are being seen.
