Coillte, the semi-state forestry agency, has launched a new scholarship programme amid a looming “acute labour shortage” in the industry.

The body said 1,770 new forestry and wood processing roles need to be filled over the next decade to meet Ireland’s Forest Strategy, but warned the industry was facing a skills shortage.
