Cliff edge taxes may create disincentives to work – report
Research from the ERSI found that people adjust their behaviour to keep their income below certain points
Cliff edges in the universal social charge (USC) and pay-related social insurance (PRSI) tax systems here may be creating financial disincentives to work, according to a new study.
These cliff edges can occur where tax and social insurance liabilities increase steeply as income rises, according to the report from the Economic and Social Research Institute (ERSI).
Both PRSI and the USC are characterised by the presence of a cliff edge, the report said.
