BT Ireland still hiring despite threat to 55,000 jobs with shift to AI

The telecoms giant has over 600 staff in Ireland and announced plans for wide-ranging cuts this morning

A BT spokeswoman said: “there isn’t currently a specific plan for labour force reduction in Ireland.”

BT Ireland has said it will continue to hire here despite a warning in the wider telecoms group that it will cut between 40,000 and 55,000 jobs by the end of the decade amid plans to shift to artificial intelligence (AI) and automated services.

A spokeswoman said that despite this mornings announcement, “there isn’t currently a specific plan for labour force reduction in Ireland.”
