Big business to be liable for suppliers’ ESG abuses from 2027

Just 40 Irish firms will be impacted by the new rules, according to MEP Barry Andrews, who said the measures have been ‘filleted’

New EU rules to make firms liable for human rights and climate abuses by their suppliers have been adopted by MEPs, by majority of 139 votes.

The so-called corporate sustainability due diligence directive will apply only to large corporations and will not apply fully until 2029.
