Accountancy bodies seek merger as sector combats ‘generational challenges’

CPA Ireland intends to hold a meeting to approve a proposed scheme of arrangement to facilitate the amalgamation next month

The two accountancy representative bodies are seeking to merge as part of efforts to deal with increased professional challenges, the High Court has heard.

The Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland (CPA Ireland) is set to merge with Chartered Accountants Ireland after a positive vote by members earlier this year.

Together the firms have around 38,000 members, representing most of those working in the sector, with Chartered Accountants representing almost 33,000 of these.
