Speculation is mounting that an Irish restaurant will today be awarded three Michelin stars, the first time the accolade has been achieved in this country.

Industry sources believe that Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud, which currently has two stars and which is located in the Merrion Hotel in Dublin, will be awarded Michelin's highest honour at a ceremony in London.
