A week in the life of Ireland’s money minister threw up a few surprises

I was woken up by a member of my team calling me just after 7am. That is not altogether unusual. But what made this a special call was that I had only got into bed one hour earlier. I spent the night awake, supporting my team who were negotiating with public service unions on a pay agreement. This negotiation turned into a marathon and the last mile is always the hardest.
