Fine Gael has been rocked by the sudden resignation of its national executive chairman and party vice-president Gerry O’Connell.

O’Connell announced his resignation at a meeting of the national executive last night, saying he would be resigning as its chairman, party vice-president and as a Fine Gael member. The solicitor is taking up a new role in the Chief State Solicitor’s Office.
