Painful as it may be, we need to reconsider our attitude to the late Michael Jackson, and also admit some culpability of our own. When it comes to famous people, we have a terrible tendency to abandon reason and standards, elevate celebrities to the status of gods, and give them licence to behave like the very worst of human beings. We act like idiots, in other words, and we need to stop it.
