Margherita delivers the goods, but Medea loses the way

The prickly novelist John McGahern once described his reunion with a long-lost friend as “more pleasing in the expectation than in the reality”. Medea is by no means a long-lost jewel in the Wexford Festival Opera sense, nor is it in popular repertoire.
