How many previous owners are too many?

How many previous owners of a car would put you off buying it? Personally, no matter how perfect looking and driving a vehicle is, if I did a history check on a car I was considering buying, and it revealed that it had changed hands more than five or so times, I’d be very suspicious of why and likely to walk away from the deal.
