Culture vultures’ night of delights

It seems like only yesterday that someone contacted me about a new annual event called Culture Night taking place in Dublin. The idea was to have everything free so citizens could wallow in the wonders of their capital city, cost be damned.

“What a lovely idea,” I thought to myself at the time, “but it won’t work.” Culture is not a word that ignites people.

I was wrong, of course. TS Eliot spoke most wisely when he observed: “Culture may even be described simply as that which makes life worth living.’’
