Channel 4’s comedy Catastrophe was one of the brightest things to hit TV screens in recent years. This season will be its last - but it feels like the right time to go

‘I went into the bank the next day and the person behind the counter exclaimed: ‘Muireann! Like the baby on the telly last night! Am I saying it right?’” This is how Today FM and Virgin Media TV presenter Muireann O’Connell remembers the beginning of the second season of Channel 4’s Catastrophe in 2015. The bank teller wasn’t saying it right but it was close enough, and she felt seen. “Woke up to a bunch of messages about Catastrophe and my name. It takes a sitcom, 30 years and all my tears but you finally get it,” O’Connell tweeted at the time.
