‘There were 12 kids, a cacophony of Creedons I think is what you’d call us’ – John Creedon

John Creedon says he’s not a natural writer, but the radio and TV broadcaster, who has just released his second book, reveals how he got his love of storytelling from his father and from growing up in a very busy and noisy home

It is the morning after the An Post Irish Book Awards and John Creedon is in flying form. His new work, An Irish Folklore Treasury, won the prize for Best Irish-Published Book and he is “feeling giddy, giddy, like a child”.

It’s a beautiful hardback publication, with gilt inlaid text on the cover and full-colour illustrations from Brian Gallagher inside, and Creedon is keen to acknowledge the collaboration. “This is not my award,” he says ...
