Sean Baker’s 2015 breakthrough film Tangerine was a manically energetic vérité odyssey. Shot on an iPhone and edited on a laptop, it followed a pair of drag queens around Los Angeles’s Skid Row at Christmas time. The American writer and director upgraded to a 35mm camera for The Florida Project (2017), but maintained his guerrilla style by trailing a gang of impoverished children in the shadow of Disney World.
