‘I love anyone who has a deep silliness about them’ – novelist Caroline O’Donoghue
The author of Promising Young Women loves the ‘childhood summer evening’ smell of freshly caught fish frying in butter, and admires silliness in others
Caroline O’Donoghue took the scenic route to becoming one of Ireland’s most popular novelists. From Rochestown in Cork, she studied English and sociology at UCC before emigrating to London in the hope of becoming a journalist. She found the industry hard to crack and spent years doing “weird jobs” in bars, advertising and recruitment instead.
