Radio at its most raw and shocking

Some programmes on edgy topics are shocking for their viscerality, their extremity, their starkness. Documentary On One: The Age of Attraction (RTE Radio 1), which profiled a pair of Australian paedophiles, jarred differently with the senses – its two subjects were utterly banal individuals, neither fitting the well-worn stereotype of the Fr Brendan Smyth-esque bogeyman figure.
