New facial recognition software has caught a number of people using multiple false identities as part of major social welfare frauds.

The new system installed last year checks for matches against the faces of 580,000 people who have received new social welfare ID cards.

In total, it has uncovered 15 people who were allegedly using false identities to sign on for multiple dole and rent support payments in different social welfare offices.
