Kenny's RTE exit shows Newstalk is ready for battle

Pat Kenny's departure is a signal that RTE faces a real challenge from Newstalk. But it also gives the national broadcaster a real chance to change, writes Kevin Rafter.

It is the single biggest transfer of on-air talent since the advent of legal privately-owned radio in the late 1980s. Pat Kenny's current affairs stature means his Newstalk move dwarfs the earlier exits of Ray D'Arcy and Ian Dempsey from the RTE fold.
