An expert has warned that the research used by Irish Water to justify the reduction in the size of the free water allowance for children ''may be biased.

The government had promised a free allowance of 38,000 litres per child, but this is now being cut to 21,000 litres per child, based on Irish Water research showing that this amount is what children actually consume.
