Greencore may defy a government decision taken last week to award it €98.5 million in sugar regime restructuring aid when the company completes a restructuring plan by July 31.

The company is not legally obliged, it has transpired, to follow to the letter specific instructions by Minister for Agriculture Mary Coughlan on how the aid should be spent.
