Bertie Ahern's comments came in the context of revelations from the Revenue Commissioners that 242 people with earnings between €100,000 and €1 million had a effective zero tax rate in 2001.

In last Wednesday's budget, the Minister for Finance said that his department and the Revenue would conduct a detailed review of 13 tax reliefs at the centre of the controversy.
