Arts Interview: A life in film

Gerard Barrett's film debut about life in rural Ireland is being widely praised, but he isn't too concerned with the plaudits - all that comes secondary to the story.

It's been a wild 12 months for Kerry native Gerard Barrett. Still only 24, his debut feature film Pilgrim Hill, self-produced on a minuscule budget, is about to open in cinemas. On the strength of it, Film Four, the film producing arm of Channel 4, has signed Barrett to a three-picture deal, the first of which, Glassland, will shoot later this year.
