The enormous Stonehenge-like structure, built without planning permission on Achill Island, is still standing after almost three years.

Council pursues developer to demolish eyesore

A local council is insisting that it is still pursuing the developer known as the Anglo Avenger to get him to demolish a divisive Mayo “landmark” dubbed Achillhenge.

Joe McNamara came to public attention when he drove a cement mixer bearing the words ‘Toxic Bank Anglo’ into the gates of Leinster House in 2010.

He later built an enormous Stonehenge-like structure without planning permission on Achill Island. The structure is still standing after almost three years.
