1,400 pension holders with €100,000 savings face probe

Around 1,400 elderly people on means-tested pensions are under investigation for having €100,000 or more in their bank accounts.

Under the rules, all savings and assets must be disclosed before people are granted the non-contributory state pension of €219 per week.

The Department of Social Protection is now investigating 1,400 pensioners who have more than €100,000 in their bank accounts after being supplied with the information by the Revenue.
