A judge has ruled that two siblings should be left with their current foster carers until their mother’s mental health stabilises, despite their parents’ fears of one of them losing their cultural heritage

Unsafe, unhygienic and unsuitable housing conditions contributed to the “chronic neglect” of two children, their removal from their mother and placement in separate foster care families.

In a case “spanning four cultures” according to a district court judge, the parents argued that the children should be allowed to stay together, with a relative, in order to retain their cultural identity.
