Taxpayers’ liability for clinical claims skyrockets to €1.98 billion

The taxpayer’s liability for clinical claims climbed to €1.984 billion in 2016, a massive increase on the €969.8 million liability at the end of 2012.
The State Claims Agency (SCA) said that maternity services claims comprised €1.4 billion, or 70 per cent of the total estimated outstanding clinical claims liability at the end of 2017.
The figures for 2017 were outlined in a report published by the National Treasury Management Agency.
