Dept of Health drags heels on medicine funding requests

The Department of Health has been sitting on requests to fund additional medicines for months, adding to major delays in getting medicines to patients.

The HSE submitted a formal request for additional funding to purchase a medicine called Erivedge, which helps treat a type of skin cancer, last October.

As reported by this newspaper in recent weeks, Erivedge is one of nine medicines and treatments that the HSE wants to provide to patients.
