Call for baby death rates to be published

The state’s chief medical officer favours publication of perinatal mortality statistics by named hospitals.

Dr Tony Holohan said he “would like the information to be made public”, but said the information needed to be conveyed in a careful manner.

“It is important to realise that this is only an indicator,” said Holohan, who stressed that large confidence intervals were needed for smaller units.
