UTV is awarded Britain’s second radio licence

? UTV Media was awarded Britain’s second national DAB (digital audio broadcasting) radio licence by the communications regulator, Ofcom, last week along with its partners in the Sound Digital consortium, Bauer Media and Arqiva.

UTV will now move ahead with plans to launch four new radio stations on this service in 2016, including three talk radio stations to its popular Talksport station. UTV said it will invest around £5.4 million, including capital expenditure of £1 million, to set up the stations.

Following a further investment of around £1 million in 2017, the stations are expected to move into significant profit.
