Snapchat is the popular self-destructing video and picture messaging app favoured by teens. And it's poised for the biggest US tech IPO since Facebook.

It was founded by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown in 2011 while they were Stanford University students.

It ticked along quietly beforeexploding in popularity in 2015.

In May of that year, co-creator Evan Spiegel said they had garnered 100 million daily users worldwide.

One of its most popular features is Snapchat Stories, video montages of a user's selected snaps that can be viewed by any of the user’s friends and disappear after 24 hours.
