There’s a strong case to be argued that running the Departments of Finance and Public Expenditure is too big a task for one minister

Just after 8am last Monday, Minister for Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform Paschal Donohoe spoke to RTÉ Radio 1’s Morning Ireland about the strike by nurses in pursuit of a pay claim. A day later, he spent hours responding to Dáil finance committee questions about the ballooning costs of the National Children’s Hospital and the small matter of the state’s preparedness for Brexit.
