Change in Central Bank rules, the help-to-buy scheme and short supply look set to drive house price inflation

Hundreds of first-time buyers have already applied for the government’s new help-to-buy scheme since it launched to applicants just five days ago.

The scheme, which will see first-time buyers who purchase or build new homes get a tax rebate of up to €20,000, is proving popular so far, with the Revenue Commissioners’ figures showing that more than 800 had applied by late last week.
