Calls to loosen the rules governing the radio industry miss the point of what makes it great

If the restrictions on radio stations were removed, I have no doubt that most music outfits would play similar music (probably what’s called adult contemporary and very similar to Dublin’s 98FM and Cork’s 96FM)

Last weekend, this newspaper and others carried reports on the most recent radio audience figures, the Joint National Listenership Research. This bible of the industry reports on the performance of all radio stations over this past year.

To be honest, radio listenership has held up pretty well despite the competition from social media, TV and the likes of YouTube and Netflix.
