Spending rose only slightly in the capital in the final quarter of 2023, belying an expectation of a Christmas surge, according to a new report from Mastercard.

Instead, Mastercard reported a gentle, sustained level of growth in demand, amounting to a slight 0.9 per cent rise in spending on a quarterly basis, and a 3.4 per cent rise annually.
