The acting chair of the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council (Ifac) has warned that he will stand down over a proposal to reduce pay for his role by 50 per cent.

Michael McMahon was speaking to the Business Post after Ifac wrote to the government criticising a proposal which he said would “weaken” the budgetary watchdog and risk damage to the country’s fiscal credibility.
