Coveney says energy subsidies insufficient to address €100m loss at Tara Mines

Mine owner Boliden confirms site will be placed into care and maintenance due to high energy costs and declining price of zinc

Simon Coveney has said government energy subsidies will not be enough to make up for the predicted €100 million loss at Tara Mines, after the company said suspending its operations was “unavoidable”.

Speaking to the Business Post, the Minister for Enterprise said the government was prepared to help Boliden Tara Mines with its energy costs through schemes like the Ukraine Energy Support Scheme for large energy users.
