27% of mortgage holders expect to be paying off the loan into retirement

More people expect to be paying off their mortgage into the 70s as the average age of homeowners rise, new poll suggests

More than a quarter of mortgage holders expect to be paying off the loan beyond the age of 65, and almost one in ten beyond the age of 70, new survey has shown.

The research - which was conducted by Royal London Ireland - is in line with a similar figure in 2020, when 29 per cent expected to be be paying theirs off beyond the age of 65, compared with 27 per cent now.
