The ballooning cost of the new National Children’s Hospital stands in stark contrast to Bam’s efficient work on Intel’s multi-billion-euro Leixlip expansion

It was a week in which two hospitals featured heavily in the news. The Beacon, a private hospital in Dublin 18 largely owned by wealthy businessman Denis O’Brien, was sold to Macquarie, an Australian asset management investor, for a sum undisclosed but reported to be in the region of €400 million to €500 million.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed that by the time the new National Children’s Hospital in Dublin 8 is completed, the cost to the government in construction and moving existing facilities to the new location will exceed €2.25 billion, compared to an initial budgeted price of well less than €1 billion.
