Eir, or Eircom as it was known once, it seems to me has always been run for the benefit of its owners, never its customers.

Maybe that’s the way with all businesses, but Eir has had a knack of taking it to extremes. And the state, having sold the old Telecom Éireann at the tail end of the 20th century, has never done enough to regulate its behaviour.
