The shocking stabbing which occurred in Dublin’s north inner city last week, and the ensuing riots, have raised many questions about politics, extremism and policing.

One of the many unsettling aspects of the entire episode was how ill prepared gardaí appeared to be, how little knowledge and understanding they appeared to possess about the coordinators of the riots and how slow they were to respond as the horror of the night unfolded.
