John Walsh: Increasing property tax could do a lot more for the state’s coffers than a wealth levy

People can move assets to other jurisdictions to avoid a wealth tax, a problem that would not be there with a revised property tax

An opinion poll published in the Irish Times during the week found widespread support on both sides of the border for wealth and income redistribution to address inequality. Sinn Féin, it seems, is pushing an open door with its proposals for a wealth tax.
