The backlash against Fiona Scott Morton, a much-respected Yale professor who was hand-picked by Margrethe Vestager, shows the EU in a terrible light
The European Union revealed an unexpected side of itself last week, and it was a petty and unattractive spectacle. In an episode that almost defies credulity, it denied a job in the Commission to a person because she had the wrong passport. The woman was not a Russian under sanction or a Chinese spy or a beast from another planet. She is a distinguished American economist.
