Bumper pay rise for state workers gives taxpayer a raw deal

News of an agreement between the government and their colleagues in the public sector unions on a new pay deal broke on Friday morning, following late-night talks at the Workplace Relations Commission.
The deal, which guarantees all 385,000 state employees a 10.25 per cent pay increase over two and a half years, came after weeks of posturing from unions that the previous offer was insufficient.
