Arguing that Ireland is too dependent on foreign direct investment is wrong

The Irish economy is modern, efficient, productive and dynamic. Yet that should not blind us to its structural flaws

The Irish economy sank into recession in 2023, with official data showing that economic output declined by 3.2 per cent. The Irish economy expanded robustly in 2023, with official data showing that economic output grew by 4.4 per cent.

Those two statements contradict each other, and yet each is also true. Like Janus, the Irish economy continues to show its two faces to the world. And that is just fine.
